Probably the greatest prophetic sign of the 20th Century was the re-birth of the State of Israel. From the earliest days of the 20th Century, events unfolded that were of epic significance to the great plan of God.
Several Old Testament prophets spoke of Israel using allegories pertaining to FIG TREES (i.e., Jeremiah 8:13; Hosea 9:10; Joel 1:7).
Jesus cursed a fig tree, and the nation of Israel disappeared for almost 2000 years. But He ALSO prophesied that it would grow again.
ye know that summer is nigh:
So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things,
know that it is near, even at the doors.
...This generation shall not pass,
till all these things be fulfilled."
Matthew 24:32-34
In 2018, the State of Israel will be 70 years old.
Seventy years is the length of a generation.
"The days of our years are threescore years and ten; [seventy]"
Psalms 90:10
The modern rebirth of the State of Israel in the Holy Promised Land is a signal to all the world that THIS is the generation that Jesus prophesied about.
Shortly after the turn of the 20th century, the "Great War," the "war to end all wars" was fought – World War I. 40 million casualties included about 20 million soldiers and civilians dead. All of the world was sorely shaken.
British Prime Minister Lloyd George ordered the invasion of Palestine duringWorld War I in 1916, as part of the efforts to overthrow the frail Turkish Ottoman Empire, which had sided with Germany.
A Jewish chemist by the name of Dr. Chaim (pronounced 'hime') Weizman developed a process for producing powerful explosives that the British desperately needed. As payment for the use of his process, he negotiated with the British to promise to provide "a national home for my people." Weizman succeeded in raising the Zionist movement into global attention. (In time, he became the first President of the new State of Israel.)
Meanwhile, Weizman's personal friend,Lord Walter Rothschild (left), of the famous Jewish banking dynasty, was also a friend of Cecil Rhodes (right), the fabulously wealthy diamond magnate and Oxford globalist.
Rhodes was sympathetic to the Zionist agenda and to Lord Rothschild. Rhodes had the money and influence to help the Zionist cause.
The late Georgetown University professor, Carrol Quigley, revealed in his 1982 book, The Anglo-American Establishment, that Rhodes sat on a Round Table withLord Alfred Milner. Both men had colonialist ambitions for Britain. They were eager to support the creation of a national homeland for the Jews under Britain's control. Lord Milner drafted the letter well-known as the Balfour Declaration. It was sent from the British Foreign office in the name of Arthur James Balfour, the British Foreign Secretary.

I have much pleasure in conveying to you, on behalf of His Majesty's Government, the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet:
- "His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

- "In 1917, the British general, Edmund Allenby, led his troops to surround the city of Jerusalem. It is reported that the night before his impending invasion, Allenby prayed that he might take the city without destroying the holy places. He had wired London for instructions and had received a simple reply---a scripture verse! 'As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over he will preserve it' (Isaiah 31:5).
The exciting prospects of such a thing led him to have the verse read aloud before all his troops positioned in the foothills of Jerusalem. Allenby commandeered every available aircraft for a fly-over. On the morning of December 10, what seemed like hundreds of planes skirted low from just over the 'Hill of Evil Council,' which lies to the south of the Temple site. The sky was covered from wing tip to wing tip and from nose to tail with airplanes---British biplanes---captured German aircraft---everything that would fly!"
As they flew low over Jerusalem and the Eastern Gate, one of the pilots dropped a note demanding surrender---signed by General Allenby. The Turks were frightened by the multitude of planes. According to reports, the name of Allenby further frightened them, for the word 'Allah' in Arabic means 'God' and 'beh' is Arabic for 'son'. The Turks were looking at a demand for surrender signed by Allah-beh, the son of God!
In response, they hoisted a white flag and surrendered the city without firing a single shot..."
He did not want to destroy the holy sites. He sent a cable to the King of England, who replied, "Make it a matter of prayer." Allenby and his staff got down on their knees in their headquarters and asked God's guidance.
As they got off their knees, the Patriarch (Grand Mufti) of Jerusalem walked in with a white flag of surrender and handed them the keys to Jerusalem.1

The Ottoman Empire collapsed at the end of World War 1, and the British controlled Palestine from the time of its capture until theLeague of Nations, in 1922, issued the "British Mandate of Palestine," which gave them authority over the region.
The Jewish Agency was formed in 1923 to oversee the immigration of Jews back into their ancient and holy homeland.
The area WEST of the Jordan River was called Palestine.
The area EAST of the Jordan River was called Transjordan.
This mandate continued until Transjordan declared its independence in 1946.
The State of Israel was declared on May 14, 1948.
The British would have continued to control Israel, except that in World War II, European Jews were facing genocide, and massive numbers of Jews were immigrating to Palestine in multitudes. The British finally attempted to put a stop to immigration, but that led to a Jewish revolt. The people had to have a home to flee to. They destroyed the British Military Headquarters. Before long, the British referred the entire dilemma to the United Nations.
The U.N. voted in November 1947 to partition Palestine and create two states, one Arab and one Jewish (General Assembly Resolution 181).
Jerusalem would be under the direct administration of the United Nations.
Britain finally removed all their troops on May 14, 1948, and David Ben-Gurion, leader of the Jewish Agency, declared the State of Israel. The Palestine Post (which soon became the Jerusalem Post), announced the news on May 16, 1948.
Six Arab states attacked the new state the very day it was born, intending to immediately destroy the new nation. But although it was a surprise attack, Israel fought and won that war, and has survived to this day.
