"3 Reasons Why We need to pay attention to Egypt"

There are a couple of reasons to pay attention to what is going on in Egypt.
  1. Internet Shut Down – During the last 24 hours the Egyptian Government was able to shut down all internet traffic in and out of Egypt. It’s estimated that some 20 million users have been effected by the shut down. The Shut Down should be a wake up call to those that think it can’t be done. With pending legislation already working it’s way through congress that would allow President Obama to literally shut down the internet during a so called “national emergency”, I don’t think what is happening in Egypt should be take lightly. The Bill, sponsored by Senator Lieberman, would give the Executive Branch control of the internet during a Cyber Emergency.

  2. Total Chaos can break out Quickly – Although people feel nice and safe here in America, reality is that during a SHTF event things will probably break down pretty quickly. Counting on Law enforcement to be able to calm things down during a SHTF Scenario will not be an option. While the Government of Egypt has sent the military in to calm things down, there are scattered reports coming out that say many of the police and military have actually taken off there uniforms and joined the protesters. During a Government meltdown, people will choose sides pretty quickly and allegiances to a uniform will mean nothing if those in Uniform disagree with those that are in power. The middle East could quickly spiral out of control putting our American Soldiers and Civilians in the Middle East at risk.

  3. OIL – If things get bad in Egypt and the Suez Canal becomes in danger of being blocked or shut down, watch for the price of oil and other goods to skyrocket pretty quickly.1.8 million barrels of oil flow through the Suez Canal everyday. A closure of the canal would cause tankers to have travel an extra 6,000 miles around the coast of Africa. Speculation has already sent oil futures up by4.3% with some investors saying that $130 a barrel could be seen pretty quickly should a blockade happen. This could be a major spark that will bring to pass the massive food shortages and the straw that breaks the back of our Economy.
